Welcome back to another note from the Restful editor’s desk as we journey to the release of Restful. Hope you’re doing well, or managing, at least.
Update:
This week, I did some restructuring to move Restful out of Studio Styles’s nest. Restful will now operate as a separate entity, a regular commercial space. New IG handle is now restful.ng , no longer ss.restful. Please follow there.
More design stuff. I finally made a couple book dummies to figure out where the pretty papers need to go. That was a puzzle that felt like a fantastic poop. Getting over that hurdle was my biggest win this year so far. I have been very nervous about getting to this part since January because I was worried about getting it right and worried that I won’t be able to put in all my favourite papers after I got very excited about them. My favourite paper didn’t make the cut, but I survived that emotionally.
Spent some time researching storefront, packaging, and shipping options as well.
Other:
This book is an art, curatorial, research and business project for me. The curatorial bit happened last year with all the commissions, editing, and art directing. The research bit happened in January in Lagos. The art and business bits are happening now, delicious and thrilling. Usually, my art projects transform me by requesting an different version of me. But this time, I’m not pushing it with the art, it’s the business side of things that’s turning me inside out.
Every time I think I have turned a new corner in my mind’s grounds, I soon realise it’s another side of trunk of the same tree I walked past on the other side of town.
See you next week!
